| Member Vacation Spotlight Members Rob and Claire Robinson Escape to Lake Las Vegas |
A note from members Rob and Claire Robinson to their Escape Planner, Melissa Jones, regarding their recent Lake Las Vegas Escape…
We like to explore and to be outdoors and the events that you helped us with, as well as a few we found on our own, were very memorable. The kayak trip down the Colorado River starting at the Hoover Dam is something that other members might really enjoy. Only 20 minutes from the property, a small group of 6-10 people starts off at the dam, then paddles down river to two different hot springs (very cool to hang out in). Lunch was provided, the guide was very knowledgeable about the canyons and the dam, and we saw Big Horn Sheep and Bald Eagles during the day. We also learned that the kayak company just signed a deal with the Ritz Carlton and Lake Las Vegas area association, so they will most likely start picking people up directly from there. Claire and I also found a great place 20 minutes on the other side of the strip called Red Rock Canyon. There is a 13-mile scenic drive around the canyon that is a nice trip in itself. We decided to do some hiking there and had such an awesome time that we went back two days later. On the second day we tackled the most difficult trail because some folks on the kayak trip had told us about it. The trail involved a lot of climbing, but ended at the peak of a rock outcropping where you could see for miles. Beneath a pile of stones and in a strongbox, there was a book that everyone who made it to the top could sign. We also liked the whitewater rafting down the Colorado River and the helicopter ride out. This trip is a bit more rugged than the kayaking and involves a trip to the Hualapai Nation Indian Reservation. They own the land down to the river, and after a couple hour trip to the reservation, you board an old school bus and go 45 minutes down an old dirt road to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. From there you board a motorized raft to head toward Lake Mead. Great rapids all morning, a stop for lunch, then float the rest of the way in the afternoon before a (very) short helicopter ride out. Got some great pictures and it was truly an experience. So just wanted to let you know we had a great time. Looking forward to our next adventure!!” |

“Melissa, we just wanted both you, and the Local Host, Donna, to know what a fabulous time we had. From the moment we got to Lake Las Vegas (thanks again for the anniversary card, champagne and tiramisu cake!); everything was better than we could have imagined.
